Sludge trap out

Posted: January 27, 2015 in 1960s BSA Hardtail

Got the sludge trap out of the BSA motor.  It took a lot of doing, as it looks like it was never taken off before.  Had to drill a hole into the bolt and use that to get something in there for leverage to turn it.  Then, the inside of just that came out a bunch of crud.  TO get the trap out itself, we had to use a tap to tighten down inside the trap, then slowly pry it out.  The trap is completely full with rock hard crap.  Good thing we took it out!

New Pilot Jets & Carb Clean

Posted: January 4, 2015 in 1974 Kawasaki Z1A

GOt the correct replacement pilot jets for the smoothbore carb and put them in.  When taking the carbs apart, it could be seen that the crap leftover in the tank was clogging things up, so they carbs were cleaned at the same time.  Just have to put them back on the bike and give it a test!  Here is what they looked like when taking them apart:

Put the cases in the frame with the transmission in to see how the chain alignment was.  After making a small cutaway on the rear fender, the alignment wound up being pretty much spot on!
